A Review of The Murderer’s Daughter by Jonathan Kellerman

The Murderer’s Daughter

by Jonathan Kellerman

Wow! What an intense book. The Murderer’s Daughter is the best thriller that I have read this year. Usually I say that I couldn’t put a book down when it’s really good, well when I was reading The Murderer’s Daughter, I had to put it down. Just to give myself a break, to be able to take everything in, and to comprehend exactly what had just gone on. This book is really good!

If you’ve ever read any Jonathan Kellerman books, then you know that he is known for his psychological thrillers. This one is just slightly different. In The Murderer’s Daughter, Mr. Kellerman explores the mind of one person, Grace Blades. He puts you inside her head, both as she is growing up, and in the present, as she has to discover who wants her dead, and why. You learn about all the events and people who shaped her mind, and made her the person that she is today. You feel what she feels. You understand what she needs to do.

Normally I wait to post my review of a book until the publication date, but The Murderer’s Daughter is so good, that I want to give you a chance to preorder it, so that you can start reading it next Tuesday, August 18th. I have links to Amazon and B&N at the bottom of this review. Go ahead and click on them, I don’t have anything to gain if you do, I’m not a shill.

I give The Murderer’s Daughter 5 Stars out of 5 and Two Big Thumbs Up! If you want to explore the mind of a fascinating character, and maybe discover what it must be like to be subjected to terrible events that shape a young mind, then read this book.

I received a Digital Review Copy from the publisher.

Book Description

The Murderer's DaughterFrom the #1 New York Times bestselling creator of the acclaimed Alex Delaware series comes a tour de force standalone novel that illustrates perfectly why “Jonathan Kellerman has justly earned his reputation as a master of the psychological thriller” (People).

A brilliant, deeply dedicated psychologist, Grace Blades has a gift for treating troubled souls and tormented psyches—perhaps because she bears her own invisible scars: Only five years old when she witnessed her parents’ deaths in a bloody murder-suicide, Grace took refuge in her fierce intellect and found comfort in the loving couple who adopted her. But even as an adult with an accomplished professional life, Grace still has a dark, secret side. When her two worlds shockingly converge, Grace’s harrowing past returns with a vengeance.

Both Grace and her newest patient are stunned when they recognize each other from a recent encounter. Haunted by his bleak past, mild-mannered Andrew Toner is desperate for Grace’s renowned therapeutic expertise and more than willing to ignore their connection. And while Grace is tempted to explore his case, which seems to eerily echo her grim early years, she refuses—a decision she regrets when a homicide detective appears on her doorstep.

An evil she thought she’d outrun has reared its head again, but Grace fears that a police inquiry will expose her double life. Launching her own personal investigation leads her to a murderously manipulative foe, one whose warped craving for power forces Grace back into the chaos and madness she’d long ago fled.

A Review of Killer by Jonathan Kellerman

Killer

by Jonathan Kellerman

Exciting, well paced, and hard to put down. Mr. Kellerman has another winner with Killer. It grabbed me and wouldn’t let go. I was so happy to read a book that I really wanted to read, not just another somewhat adequate attempt by some wannabe author.

All of the primary characters in this book are fleshed out and believable. The action keeps you turning the pages, but the ideas and psychological tension behind the story is what makes the book so riveting. You get little clues, but you aren’t really sure that what you thought happened really did. Was that wonky feeling real, or are you being paranoid? Those sort of feelings are what set this book apart, and keep you interested.

Killer is another book in the long-lasting Alex Delaware series. Like most of the books in this series, it is part of the series, but it doesn’t DEMAND that you have read the previous books. This works very well as a stand-along novel. You aren’t left hanging, wondering who this or that person is. The story and characters work just fine by themselves. This is apparently a difficult thing for some authors to master, having a series of books that are readable without committing yourself to reading every book in the series, in order, or maybe they just don’t want you to be able to read their books however you want. They want the control.

I really enjoyed reading Killer and give it 4 1/2 Stars out of 5, and a Big Thumbs Up! I have the next book in the series on hold at my library and will read and review it as soon as I get my hands on it.

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER
Killer by Jonathan KellermanAfter thirty-five riveting, internationally acclaimed novels of psychological suspense, #1 New York Times bestselling author Jonathan Kellerman returns with his most stunning thriller to date. Killer is a mesmerizing L.A. noir portrayal of the darkest impulses of human nature carried to shocking extremes. The City of Angels has more than its share of psychopaths, and no one recognizes that more acutely than the brilliant psychologist and police consultant Dr. Alex Delaware. Despite that, Constance Sykes, a sophisticated, successful physician, hardly seems like someone Alex needs to fear. Then, at the behest of the court, he becomes embroiled in a bizarre child custody dispute initiated by Connie against her sister and begins to realize that there is much about the siblings he has failed to comprehend. And when the court battle between the Sykes sisters erupts into cold, calculating murder and a rapidly growing number of victims, Alex knows he’s been snared in a toxic web of pathology.Nothing would please Alex more than to be free of the ugly spectacle known as Sykes v. Sykes. But then the little girl at the center of the vicious dispute disappears and Alex knows he must work with longtime friend Detective Milo Sturgis, braving an obstacle course of  Hollywood washouts, gangbangers, and self-serving jurists in order to save an innocent life.
