About

I won’t be accepting any new review requests because I have decided to wind this blog down. I will read and review the books that I have already accepted, but won’t be adding any new books

I’m a retired construction Steamfitter, a member of the Detroit U.A. Local 636, living in Sterling Heights, Michigan. I like to read. I get books from our local library. They have a program that allows you to borrow ebooks to read on your Kindle. I do that too. I also borrow audiobooks so that I can listen to books when I’m driving, working in the yard or going for a walk. I read a lot.

I came across a great website, Goodreads. They have a program called First Reads. You can sign up to possibly receive a new, free pre-publication book. They suggest that you review the books that you receive, since that is why the publishers send them out. I figured that if I was going to do that, I may as well keep those reviews on a web site that I set up. So here is my free, easy to use, new blog on WordPress.

I am a member of NetGalley, edelweiss, and GoodReads. Most of the books that I review come from one of those websites.

  1. I am part of Goodreads but so lax and naughty and always forgetting to join in with things. Thanks for finding my author blog and perhaps you can review the latest Crime anthology I have written two stories for…..we are Crime writers from around the world contributing to an anthology in memory of a much loved author, blogger and editor – Maxine Clarke a/k/a Petrona – who died in The Princess Alice Hospice in 2012. We are raising funds for the Hospice and all funds go to them. Links to the book are on my blog and to amazon where it can be purchased. The book is called In A Word: Murder. If you are of a mind and find it and read it, a review would help our sales greatly. Have a fun week and lots of good reads. Jane xx

    1. Thanks. I started this blog because I found out that if I did, I might get some books that the publishers would like me to review. So it really works out well, I get a lot of free books and they get some reviews. Maybe you should try it.

      1. my english isn’t good enough to write interesting reviews and I live in Ukraine so I can suppose that free books won’t be exactly free 🙂

      2. So don’t write your reviews in English, write in whatever language you want. Just start another section on your blog devoted to book reviews and as you read a book write a review and post it. After you have done that a few times maybe you will start to feel like you can do that on a regular basis. If you do join GoodReads.com and post the reviews of books that you have read and reviewed there. Then join NetGalley.com and tell them that you are a professional reviewer and give them your blog. Then you will be able to request books on NetGalley (which will be eBooks) and GoodReads (which are paper books) if you are approved you will receive them for FREE!

    1. Thanks for visiting my blog. I appreciate the Union support. It seems rare in the U.S. these days. Everyone wants to rag on unions, but without unions most people who aren’t union members wouldn’t have the benefits that they do.

      1. Very good point and I totally agree. It boggles the mind how much bad press unions receives. I know unions aren’t perfect and they are vulnerable to vices as are other organization are but without them…

People really need to re visit the history of child labor and the beginnings of the industrial revolutions to count their thanks for unions. As for today with the scandals of banks, corporations unions are definitely needed to protect the worker but..

I’m preaching to the choir here so I will stop. Glad to meet you.

    1. I try to keep a few open days now and then, so that if something interesting comes my way I can read it. Also I have instituted a policy that if I don’t enjoy reading a book, for whatever reason, I don’t have to finish it. That has allowed me to drop some of those books that sound good when you read about them, buy don’t live up to the hype.

  2. Hi
May I hope that you can review an award-winning historical novel? I published a Korean War novel The Dance of the Spirits on Amazon. The book won the 2014 eLit Awards sponsored by Jenkins Group. The book tells a story of a forbidden love in a forgotten war and received positive reviews from Kirkus Reviews, San Francisco Reviews, Midwest Book Review, and some Amazon readers.

  4. Hi Bill, I saw your blog listed in the Book Review Directory. I blog and write, and noticed that most reviewers work hard reading and writing reviews, but don’t get much traffic for all that work. Like Ryan Lanz, I’d like to promote your work on my site. Each week I feature a specific genre. If you have a book review for that genre post the link in the comment section. I will visit it and list all the links the next week as well. You don’t have to read another book, but advertise a post you’ve already created. Yeah!!! I read that you review biographies. Here is a link for memoirs. http://wp.me/p7tP3I-eS. I’d love to promote your hard work. Marsha 🙂
